Nemanja Vidic, an important Serbian player in the defence of Manchester United football team might be retained by Old Trafford. There have been many reports of Vidic being pursued by the Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United boss, had replied on questions about Vidic’s future at Old Trafford that he hopes that the Serbian player continues to play for the Red Devils but gave no guarantee.

The injuries of players in defence at Manchester United hindered the team’s shot at the Premier League title last year. Manchester came a close second after Chelsea in the last season. The management thinks that Vidic is an important asset in its defence which is prone to injuries and would like to retain him. The club is expected to extend the player’s contract by 2 years increasing his wages to £90,000 a week, making him one of the highest paid players in the Premier League.
